Trying to post correct links once again.

As far as "phone home" - it doesn't seem to bother me. I had it crash, etc. It said "oops it crashed, yadda yadda" and I said "No" to "do you want to send us the email." I guess that's a new feature. I don't mean to sound spiteful about this at ALL Neil, but I don't think we're using remotely the same program. Mine gives me the option of reporting crashes like most programs do.

This link for FotoFusion Pro

Or this one for Fotofusion Standard

Because the program will eventually stop working if it can't contact "the mothership" to verify that you have a valid license.

(The constant "phone home" thing is the prime reason why I won't pay for it either.)

So...how would you like them to not get their stuff DL on kazaa or winmx?

Maybe I'm the one missing the boat here, but this is fantastic software and it's getting a really crappy rap for "checking" home. Doesn't Norton antivirus check for updates constantly as well - like a lot of programs?

If it's a good product, people will pay for it. Regardless of what "counter piracy" measures they put in to it, hackers will find a way to disable whatever it is. So their little "phone home" scheme is an inconvenience to me, the paying customer. People using a "hacked" version are actually better off than those who paid for it because they don't have to worry about it suddenly crapping out on them. How is that a "selling point"?

Do you remember the huge out-cry when Intuit pulled a similar stunt with TurboTax? They quickly changed their tune the next year.

There is a difference between anonymously checking for updates as a courtesy to the customer (which many programs do) and periodically "checking in with Big Brother" to see if you're still allowed to use their program. Even if you are disconnected from the network, Norton will continue to protect your computer against the viruses it knows about; it doesn't "cease to function" like Lumapix does if it can't periodically validate your license.

There isn't much hope in convincing me that what Lumapix is doing is OK. If I shell out money for a program, it should work from that point on, regardless of where or when I want to use it. By not purchasing their software, I'm telling them it isn't OK to do what they're doing.

Well, it seems there's a lot different from 2.1 to 3.1 so hopefully they take all this into consideration and update it in the future. :) I'm not trying to convince - just understand the problem. Norton doesn't stop functioning, no.
