My recent entry was called in to question because I used content aware when I cropped/straightened the photo. It actually left really ugly results that I did not see because I got home and posted just hours before the deadline. But nonetheless I would have likely removed them if I saw them. Kind of surprised that this would be a reason to DQ - but it is what it is.
For the record, this was not DQd but very close to it by a 2 to 3 vote.
Entry
Unstraightened

I'm very glad you posted this, Erin. I would have done the exact same thing - well, maybe not with "content aware" but by cloning. In fact, I thought it was explicitly allowed in Standard to clone in space/sections that were "added" because of straightening. I'll have to go back and re-read.
Or was it because you used "content aware" rather than cloning it in yourself?
ETA: Just went back and re-read rules for Standard editing. This is the part I'd recalled: "You may... use cloning or similar tools to fill in gaps around the perimeters of panoramic or perspective-corrected photos with appropriate bits to continue the interrupted image."
As I said initially, I'd have done the same thing without giving it a 2nd thought.

I agree I didnt think twice about it - and actually once it was brought up that it wasnt the same image I kind of laughed because all I did was fill in what was empty due to straightening it in a hurried fashion. I would have done a much better job if I had the time and cared. I just had never done a negative challenge entry and just wanted to try it and was so last minute. LOL I had to google how to invert and was more concerned over that than the edges that were awful LOL |

For my eyes, it's a struggle to see anything different between those 2 images. |

For the record that was a personal conversation. Not meant for sharing but as a courtesy. Locking and hiking for now. Thanks.
eta - Unlocked.

Its on the sides where I had to fill in to straighten it. |

Pull them up side-by-side, it's enough to ask questions about, especially considering both the left and right sides had alterations. |

Additionally, we didn't receive information in the edit notes from the photographer stating anything about cloning or fill applied. Also received no response after we received the 2nd original and we still had questions, which was asked in a ticket directly to the photographer. So ... yes, there were questions, but in the end the correct decision was made.
Lesson learned about oversharing was learned here however. THAT will be useful. :-) |

I actually did provide notes on my edit - you assumed cloning happened - it did not. I specifically noted cropped and straightened and had forgotten it filled as that is my default and as I mentioned in this thread I didnt even notice the crummy job I did of that.
Did you over share by giving me a heads up that my image barely cleared the vote of whats allowed? Sure didnt feel like that, felt more like trying to tell me that something I believe to be very legal may not get the votes next time as I was one vote away from a DQ. Which I believe to be very arbitrary and therefore worthy of a heads up to others. So in that regard - useful lesson indeed. |

edit - nevermind. Not worth additional time and effort at this point. Take care.
