I have been very disappointed lately with anything b/w that I produce and after having sped through the BWii posts decided to try something radically different than what I normally would shoot for on a monochrome. So I grabed an outtake (which now I feel would have done WAY better than the 4.2 I submitted in BWii) and played with it using a new set of eyes.

I realize that the choice is very busy in the foreground and on the target plane, but right now am really only concerned about the contrasts and shades to see if this is something that is finally moving in the right direction.

If you have a moment (between voting and commenting on the 600+ challenge entries) would someone please stop by this one and just let me know if the black, white and shades of grey at least achieve something worth continuing to explore? Thanks all.

...oh yeah, this subject's nothing close to what I actually submitted in the challenge.

With the exception of the blown sky, I think you did very well with the tonality. You've incorporated the full range of tones, and there is detail in the dark areas as well as the light. The overall efffect is pleasing, to my eye neither overly contrasty, nor too flat.

Thanx for the feedback. It is greatly appreciated. Not sure what to do on the sky, it was a cloudless day, so the blue has no detail at all. Is this a place where a selective burn would be appropriate or is it better to leave it blown out?
