Say 5 years from now.. Do you think digital cameras will be able to produce pictures like this: 2500 megapixel Image

I hope so, but think it will take longer. :-) What do you think?

Personally I donĂ¢€™t think it will get to that amount of MP in 5 years. What I think will happen within the next 5 years are improvements on current technology including lens, sensors, and features and media. They will go the way of the consumer in keeping the price range around the same while doing these improvements. Just think what a 20D would of cost 5 years ago!

I think that in the future there will be what they call a memory film. It will be a wafer that will retain and image for a short period of time and in that time a chip will download the info on the film buy the amount of excitation on each particle on that film. The pixel size will be the size of each atom onthe film wafer. I am working on just such a design and will be able to get back to it once I figure how to get out of this very uncomfortable white jacket.
