Hello,

I am Debating b/w Canon EF 24-105 f4 L and Canon EF-S 17-55 f2.8
I mainly shoot while traveling, and I shoot portraits with our without blur, city, nature.
Anyone has use these two lenses on crop sensor body? Please advise which one should I get. I am more towards 24-105 f4 L and I also have little interest on 15-85 f3.5-5.6 EF-S
Currently I have following and like to carry less lenses when I am walking around.
Canon T3i body,
18-55
55-250
50 f1.8

Please advise.
Thank you

I'd do the 24-105. You already have the nifty 50 for portraits with nice bokeh. Much better range for traveling, imo

I would recommend the 24-105, I currently use on my Sony and previously used this range on a Canon 7D crop.
great range for travelling.

Since my camera has cropped factor of 1.6, Will I be able to take close up

The "crop factor" is just a metric indicating what the effective focal length of the lens is on your body. 24mm x 1.6 = roughly 39mm. It had nothing to do with how close the lens will focus, which is a function of its design and construction.

What you see through this lens on your camera is identical to what you'd see if you used the lens on a FF sensor and cropped to match the smaller sensor you have. So it's important to note that 24mm on FF is considered to be a fairly wide-angle lens, but 39mm is closer to a normal lens than a WA...

I understand the crop factor. However, I am trying to find peoples experience with these two lenses with a crop camera, and their recommendation.
Thank you.

This really depends on what you intend to shoot with it. The 24-105 on a crop cam will feel like a 40-170 and would thus be great for shooting things that are far away (wildlife, sports, etc) and still be able to do some midrange work like portraits and street photography, but if you're planning on mainly doing landscape shots or shooting in lower light (since f2.8 is much faster than f4) then the 17-55 would be a better option for you.
