I got my 10D back from the Canon repair site yesterday. Wohoo! I sent it in because there were some (12 or so) spots on the CMOS that wouldn't come off. They actually looked like dark, tiny little circles. I think they may have been bubbles in the filter. There were also narrow bands of discoloration along the bottom and one side. The pixels in these bands were different colors from the rest of the image. Anyway, they replaced the sensor and did a complete tune-up, all for free because it was still under warranty. I tested it and the images looked pretty good. The spots and banding are gone. There was dust on the sensor, but a couple wipes with Pec-Pads and Eclipse fixed that.
Just thought I'd put this out there in case anyone else has similar defects on their sensor.

I too have been very satisfied with Canon's warranty service, very professional and reliable.
