| Seeing that the voice of wisdom and moderation is retiring I might as well give up on this Rant. |

| I removed all my posts even if I know that they are somewhere archived. The unthinkable has happened, I'd better live with that and never visit your country. I was laughing from my parents too scared to say anything against regime, now I understand them. |

The unthinkable? I'm curious which one you're referring to. |

I think he's a poor president. I voted for him the first time around. I did not vote for him this time. I thought having a non-politician in that position would be a good thing, and it could have been, but it hasn't been. This president caused me to leave my Republican party registration behind and re-register as an independent during his first presidency. My positions haven't changed. The party's positions have moved so far to the right that it has left me very close to center if not slightly left of center. During the first year of this presidency, he has solidified my dislike for him. I have always been capable of calling BS on both sides, but I find myself calling BS on the right side so much more frequently now that it bothers me. It bothers me HORRIBLY that he doesn't allow any kind of dissent from other party politicians who disagree with him. That dissent sets him on a tirade of name calling and threats of bank rolling a primary against said dissenter. Margorie Taylor Greene.... and Thom Tillis from my own state of NC are a couple strong examples of that. There are many more and there will be even more in the coming months as other republicans are starting to either stand up to him or, as many have done recently, announce their retirement. They are fed up with him also. Voters in those districts who elected those representatives should be taking it personally also. The president is trying to manipulate their choice of representative by financing primaries against them.
As for the opinion of folks from other countries, I'm not so sure I concern myself with that. They don't see as much of the inner workings of our government as we do here. They see the news concerning foreign policy more than anything else. I'm curious if the original poster has ever been to the US. She described her happiness with Switzerland and the people therein. Her descriptions work for me here in the US in MANY MANY places I have been and continue to go. Our president and politicians do not represent what you will see on the ground in Nashville, Tennessee. Or Phoenix, Arizona. Or New York City. Or Austin, Texas. Or Bumfuk Egypt. When your opinion of the US is built on what the media shows you, i'm sure it won't be rosy in any country, including the US. That would not fit the media narrative to paint us in a good light. Bad news sells better than good news.
Put your feet on the ground in the US and don't turn on the news while you are here. You will find lots of happiness and good times.

I've lived in Canada my whole life. Grew up in a border town. The US is exactly like the news depicts.

There's also a lot of shit and ignorance.
The US could be great, but DT and the people who voted for him are to blame. He was so unqualified the first time around that I have zero sympathy for anything that's happened since. Vote in a clown, expect a circus. |
