Here are two kits I am considering:

//www.nadel.ca/EntryLevel.html
//www.nadel.ca/ProLighting.html (I am looking at the deluxe set)

The first set can be had for can$500. The seconds cost can$1000. I am wondering if anybody knows or uses these, and if the have an opinion. I think they are only available in Canada.

Secondly, even if you don`t have experience with them, do you have an opinion on the entry level set. I am looking to do home portraits, family portraits of small groups (3-4), and individual portraits in my makeshift home studio. Is the 100 watts/sec powerfull enough.

There are definitely some advantages to the PRO set (wireless transmitter / bigger softbox) but $$$ is an issue. I now use continuous tungsten lighting which is not really ideal for portraits because of the slow shutter speeds.

Thanks in advance.

I'm not familiar with them, but look somewhat similar to some of the flash units this person sells. Stuff here is pretty darn cheap, if you want some stuff to learn and experiment with.

I assisted a photographer not long ago who used 3 K Series flashes.
From what I remember, they were 350W but I might be mistaken.

All I can say is that it gave great results and that if you can afford it, go for it, it's a great investment.
What's nice is that you can add different modules at the front to control light output and you can also screw in lights in the middle so you have constant lighting on your subject which renders focusing, if using auto focus, a lot easier.

250 w/s minimum power is what I would reccomend for studio work,. I had a 150w/s and it was way to small. The Electra brand strobes are also worth looking at, I use them and have been very satisfied with them,.
