Ok, everytime I post a shot that I WANT to be soft, I always get at least one comment on saying "its not in sharp focus" Now, if I had submitted a photo not knowing this, then perhaps I would appreciate the comment.
That being said, why cant we make it so that with each submission, there be a photographers comments under the photo DURING THE CHALLENGE. For this you can explain you know its soft, or other similar things.

This seems like such a basic and necessary feature.

As tough as it is to see those notes from voters (and I got a BUNCH on Calendar), I think photographer's comments would create worse problems than they solve. Explaining your intentions or process takes some of the mystery and fun away, and opens a potential Pandora's Box of "doesn't meet the challenge" comments. Besides, you shouldn't have to explain your photos to the viewer. |

I agree, there should be a box where to be prohibited to unreveal identity or anything like that but to be able to say a few words about the image. I think that is mostly usefull not to explain your image because that should explain itself alone, but to explain certain details like for example when you feel voters will get paranoid about the fact that they think you used more photoshop than you actualy did or such.

I would have agreed a few challenges ago, but honestly, I don't think it helps to have comments on 600+ entries to read. Chances are these wouldn't be a word or two but a whole paragraph talking about pointless reasons for doing something a certain way. Telling someone you intentionally did something to a photo isn't going to make them like what they don't like.
I mean we are all great in our own respects but there is always someone better. Trying to figure out creative ways to influence voters is not going to help you win, only great photography will do that!

In addition, just because you intended to do something doesn't mean I like it.

I guess you could do what a few have done at one time or another - include a very short explanation as part of your title. (eg. "Title - soft focus") Whether it would make a difference is another matter entirely.

I agree with this bthat's why I said I don't think comments should explain things but photos should explain themselves but in cases like this:
When everione thought Gordon over edited it in PS and he didn't at all I think it could be usefull. Not to explain his intention but to prevent voters anti photoshop paranoya.
Same goes here where folks thought I photoshoped it alot more than I actualy did.
