I love this bar. |
Me too. This is the only site I've ever paid membership. Most likely it will stay that way. |

1) Depends on the model
2) You can use a plethora of apps on iOS and android to scan just the same |

Unfortunately I need a real scanner because I've got very shaky hands. Same reason that I never use the camera in my phone for anything more important than keeping records of things I'm considering buying. |

If you're only printing black and white I'd recommend a cheap laser printer and keeping your scanner. I think inkjets are especially prone to problems like you're describing when they're used infrequently, and they're expensive to keep supplied. Also, laser toner doesn't smear if it gets wet -- good for important documents.
Plus, you already are familiar with using your scanner, and if one function stops working it doesn't disable the other (I grew up believing in building systems from components rather than all-in-one units). |

Thanks Paul. Maybe that is the best option. I already went to see the cheap printer today but the shop was out of stock. I'll try another place tomorrow. |

I've been using an HP P1606dn laser for a while (2-3 years?) -- I got that model for the built-in duplexing (2-sided) printing and the good reviews at the time, but it may be beyond your budget. |

That model doesn't seem to be available any more. All the listings on Google seem to be from eBay.
I've found an HP Laser 107w available relatively cheaply but it doesn't seem to do duplex printing (a feature I've insisted on in the past). I'll look to see what else is available in more expensive makes though, maybe including 3-in-1 machines for added convenience. Maybe it's better to pay more and pay once.
Or maybe I'll still go for the Pantum 3-in-1. I just wish somebody knew the make. I even went into a computer shop yesterday where the salesman had never heard of it.
I'm terrible at making decisions. |

Yes. I'm a printer tech and this is what I have at home. |

I think I'm going to buy a Pantum 4-in-1. I can get an HP 3-in-1 for not much more but it doesn't print double sided. Definitely don't think I should buy a stand alone printer and keep my old scanner. My house is already far too cluttered. Just need to read the reviews first. |

Just be aware of the risks... it's pretty much an unknown brand and when you need supplies, replacement parts or service there is a risk that they will be "unobtainum." The risks are higher with greater complexity, and duplexing printers and multi-function printer/scanners are more complex and thus do have higher rates of failure |

That's what's worrying me, but I don't know what else to do. I've tried several shops and haven't seen anything more suitable. The cost of an equivalent HP is far too high and that's the only other laser duplex printer I've been able to find. |

I've just found this one, seemingly only available online: Canon i-SENSYS MF275dw All-In-One Wireless Mono Laser Printer
Now I'm already looking at spending nearly $220. Not what I was planning, |

What's driving you need for duplex printing? It's nice, to be sure, and does save paper. I don't have it on our home laser, however, and for the amount of printing that we do it works out well for us. |

Just convenience. When I've had to turn papers for some reason, I always seem to put them back the wrong way. And as I suffer from chronic pain in my legs, I really don't want to have to stand and watch my printer doing its work. I'm looking to see if the site has anything similar without the double sided printing though.
Update: The only cheaper one they have doesn't have WiFi. As the price difference is only about $10, it's not worth considering.

My Samsung Ml2525W has been very reliable and I've had it for at least 10 years, maybe 15.
Nevermind, looks like the Samsung line is now HP and I don't see anything that looks based on the one I have.

I went into a Samsung shop yesterday and saw that they had no printers so I checked online and saw they'd been taken over by HP. It's a shame because I've always been happy with the Samsung products I use.
Part of me is still tempted to go for the cheap single function printer and keep my old scanner. If I can find a place that has stock! At least now that I managed to print the documents I needed I don't feel rushed to make a decision. |
