Hi, I need help.

I have a ring flash, cheapy model, doesn't even have a brand name. It's one of those that clip onto the front of your lens, the flash control sits on the hot shoe of the camera. It has a "light" function, which is working fine, and then a flash and also a "left side"/"right side" flash and you can adjust the strength of the flash. That is the extend of the settings.

I haven't used it in ages. When I tried to photograph with it now, it is firing late. That is WELL after the shutter has gone. I read the sync speed was 1/100, I adjusted that (thought the camera determines the sync speed, but anyway, it seems the flash does).

I fired the camera internal flash, just to check that there are no camera settings that I maybe had forgotten about, but the internal flash is fine. The hot shoe is working, because my studio lights fire with a remote on the hot shoe and I used it all afternoon.
Any ideas, suggestions what could be wrong and what I could try to make it work please?

Has it previously worked on this camera? Is it the 80D or something else you own? I don't use flash an awful lot myself, so my experience with them is limited.

If this was on a mirrorless, I might think normal vs silent shutter could be involved.

Hmmm, I don't know if I used it on this or the previous (Rebel) camera ...
It just seems odd :-(
