I did this one a while back, but can't for the life of me remember how!

I do remember searching for "pop art tutorial" or something similar on Google and getting several decent hits.

I don't know if this qualifies or not, but I blew out the contrast, black spot and white spot, and saturation. Used hue to get it to the four different shades. Then, I used Photoshop Elements to arrange it four times. Pretty simple, but once again, I don't know if it qualifies.

Andy Warhol is the king of art.
To get that cartooney effect you would have to use some type of filter on photoshop but for those groovy colors you can adjust the master hue then tweak with the hue of the individual color you wanted. |

Did you see the link to Warhol in this thread? Maybe not quite what you're looking for... |

Ooh, flash of inspiration!
I'm pretty sure whatever I did involved using the threshold tool. Something to add to your search query to help narrow the results.

My favorite method is to convert the image to B&W, use Posterize to reduce to just a handful of different tones, then change each tone to a different color using the magic wand and Fill Selection. A good tutorial: //www.creativepro.com/story/feature/21897.html |

Use Threshold to get the 2-tone. (you may have to blur a bit first to avoid jaggies)
Then use Filter - Diffuse - anisotropic to soften the edges a bit.
Hope that helps.

I'm sorry to say I don't care for it much. The colors don't work well for me. (A questionable judgement from a color blind man whose wife forever complains that I can't color coordinate my girl's clothes!) I can barely make out any detail in the bottom middle one. There are also a lot more tones and the edges are smoother than anything Warhol did, which isn't bad in itself (you aren't Warhol!), but I think that may be part of why the images just don't fit together to my eye. And the highlights in the model's hair have just turned into distracting splotches. Overall, I think the original image has too many subtleties to work well with this treatment, especially when you invert the tones as on the bottom row.
But hey, I'm not an expert! I've tried this a few times and haven't yet come up with something I'd want to share. So you're way ahead of me! Please don't let my critique discourage you. This is certainly a worthy first attempt. |

Heres my attempt but using various Pshop tools in a way familiar with my experience.

It's a lot of work depending on the technique, it's all about layers, selective eraser and channel mixing.
In the case of this shot, the BG, the Hair and the eyes have been modded..so it was a fairly lenghty process

Not really a Warhol but based on that style. Basically I turned the image into a vector, duplicated it, and played around with colors. |
