I went through the forums and saw many good recommendations for books that talk about tips and tricks, or that cover one aspect of photography like macro of landscapes in detail, but that isn't the type of book I'm hunting for. Does anyone know of a good, thorough and immensly helpful book on photography from a purely technical aspect? I am not interested in books on composition or the more artsy side of this wonderful hobby, I want to see diagrams, charts, graphs, tables...you know, typically boring stuff that seems to suck the fun out of taking a picture. For me, that is interesting and gives insight into what the camera is doing and on what shots will work and which ones won't. Any help is greatly appreciated, and I will do what I can to continue submitting photos that are worse than yours to help elevate your average placement in the challenges.

Thanks!

I'll comment on both of these:

1. Sorry for the off-topic post...but I am looking for tips, per se.
2. Yes, my girlfriend is from Romania, Bucharest, to be precise, and she, like you, is also 24. At present, though, she is in the US, but the tow of us will be traveling to Romania this Christmas to see her family and tour her old stomping grounds.

This is one I have read but do not own.

//www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0817458697/qid=1101787592/sr=2-1/ref=pd_ka_b_2_1/002-9406322-5476023

It is geared for 35mm film but it's technical sections are quite good. You can view some of the book online at Amazon.
