Here was one of my outtakes for 'Poverty'. Don't know if I made the right choice or not but I would like some comments on this picture anyway in its own right.

What can I do to improve it?

Ya, sorry, I don't post in forums too often and I have only just uploaded my photos to that MSN group now!

Sorry about that - guess I will learn!

It certainly is a powerful photo! I'm not usually a big fan of harsh shadows, but I don't mind them in this case. You filled your frame, there are no distractions. It seems a touch on the soft side (focus), I'd like at least the eyes to be as sharp as can be.
Overall: well done.

Well, the first thing that pops into my mind is "Get a kleenex and wipe that kid's nose".

It's a great picture, but it doesn't provide enough context to say "Poverty" all by itself.

Thanks for the comments! I've only just posted my photo and already have two great replies!

How do I make my photos sharper? Pretty much everyone has said the same thing about my photos? Is it my editing? I use a simple program Irfan View for converting to B&W and for my cropping as it is very easy and keeps the exif data. I can't see that I have done anything to soften the image?

This photo I haven't edited at all but it seems much better!?!

Not sure I would consider this poverty just because the nose is running or because he/she is black. There are kids that go to my daughter school that need to learn to use a kleenex. I guess I need to see more of the childs area of living. Know what I mean? :-)
