A while back I was DQ for taking a photo of an image I created and framed of my granddaughters feet they were in gold paint and very creative I thought But it was DQ I still to this day disagree but we have to go with the rules I guess.
You know you did a great shot and I know I did and that needs to be put behind us and move on because I can reassure you that you are the only one who is going to worry about it.
I am not saying that to be unkind. I had sympathy of a few voters on my side and some nice encouragement but at the end of the day it was only me that really got upset. I even cried would you believe. We try our best and thats all that matters. Put that image in your own port folio
and go out and shoot the next challenge and hopefully it will be a winner Best wishes

Thanks Sally-
Like I said in a previous post: Largely because of all the great support and positive feedback, the fact it was DQ'd doesn't bother me anymore. I can see both sides of the argument, and I have learned some things. I have let it go, and I am now brainstorming for Hero and B&W.
Thanks to all,

Hey guys, I have a question. If you set up a still life piece with elements you've created, just for a photograph, and it is 3D, but barely, will that get DQed? (Trying not to give away my tentative B&W II entry, so I can't reveal more details) Since it technically is your own artwork, but the only place it will ever appear is in that photograph?

Ok, I've stayed out of this conversation for sake of argument, but as stated numerous times in this thread...Photos with background elements will NOT be DQed, 3D objects with NOT be DQed. that INCLUDES statues, figurines, pop bottles, wine glasses, shot glasses, hockey pucks, and COINS.
If the photo could have just as easily been a scan (with no creative interpretation what so ever...most likely it will be DQed.
So, if you want us to have any time what so ever to deal with actual issues, then PLEASE stop wasting our time by requesting DQ on statues, coins, or other 3d objects if they include ANY type of background (weather it be solid color or not) You have been told that these will pass majority of SC votes and will not be DQed. Please please please let us get on to other things.
And while I'm at it. STOP STOP STOP requesting DQ for not meeting the challenge...it states RIGHT ON THE PAGE to NOT NOT NOT request for misinterpretation. This will NOT be DQed either. It's a waste of our time if you'd just read the page before you submit. (the misinterpretation thing that is)
Maybe it matters a little more to me cause I'm on very slow dial up way out here in the middle of MI, and it takes me forever to click on those links, load the photo ONLY to find out that someone wants it DQed for misinterpretation or cause it's 'art' when there's a whole city in the photo or something. C'mon use some sense. If there is background in the photo...then it is an ORIGINAL photo. The PHOTO belongs to the person. If you and the subject moved together 2cm to the left, and photographed it again...it is then a DIFFERENT original photo. Completely different background elements etc.
I could put it 10 different ways...it's all the same. Background elements=NO DQ. Simple. Ok, so no more requesting DQ on anything with background elements. Thank you.
Of course, sometime in the life of DPC there WILL be an exception, so this can't be 100% (I believe it is as of right now) but like everything else, some smart alek is sure to push their limits with 'the rules'. So...until that happens...spare me a few moments and ask yourself 'does this have ANY background elements' if the answer is yes...dont bother requesting DQ please.
I think I'm just frusterated because even after we have stated (seems like every couple months now) that if it has background elements (and numerous time in this thread, which is my reason for posting here) That we are STILL getting hoards of requests for photos that DO contain background elements.
Guess it shouldn't surprise me, since every day we get requests for not meeting the challenge and it's right there in front of people. In RED even.
Whew...I do really feel better.
This post is really directed an NO ONE in particular...just a 'let off steam' kind of post, after going through 20 requests for photos with background elements. It takes me a very long time to view those and vote. And I feel like a lot of time has been wasted due to it.
Anyway, thanks for letting me vent, and I hope at least one person reads this and understands where I'm coming from.
Thanks again.

So what if it has a FOREGROUND element? Just kidding. Thanks for the explanation (again).

Yeah, it usually IS that smart Aleks. Does anybody else see the irony?

I hear where you are coming from. But, I don't think you can get a narrow depth of field on a scanner. I don't think you can get the shadows from thw wrinkled bill on a scanner. This is the third time I've asked about this, and everyone has avoided it - why was this DQ'd? It has photographer elements that were an obvious choice by the photog that took planning and skill.

Is it always the same people requesting DQ's for images that shouldn't be DQ'd?
Maybe it should be like the NFL where you can only challenge a limited number of times...I'm sure the 80/20 rule applies to people who mistakenly request DQ's.
After two mistaken DQ requests, you're no longer allowed to request any for the month...that sort of thing.

I think there is a spec of dust on his chin, does that qualify as added art? |

You might wanna rewrite this in a calmer and more neutral tone, without caps lock, and put it on the DQ description page. As it is, the page is not very good about explaining what are and what are not proper grounds for disqualification. Specific examples help too.

This was still never addressed. Huh.

Just a reminder that you should not discuss specific challenge entries while voting is still taking place.
