Okay...I have a Nikon 18-70 DX lens that is only 3 weeks old and it has a piece of dust on the lens just under the front glass. Where could that have come from? How can I remove it? |

Take it back to where you bought it and request a replacement. |

Sounds like it got there during manufacturing. I would take it back and get a new lens. |

I have the same thing with a Canon 28-105mm lens. Dust can get sucked in as you pump air in and out while zooming. I don't think it's fixable without expensive dealer service. On the other hand, it probably won't be visible unless you're using a really small aperture. |

Being assembled outside the factory?
Are you sure you didn't have it when you bought it?
You can take it to the people you bought it from and ask for a replacement.

I have a feeling you are not talking about dust inside the lens at all.
I think you have a spec of dust on the sensor. You need to get rid of. Now be careful with that. You can use a blower (not compressed air). Read that manual and it will have a section on it. Follow it word to word.
edit: typo

So how do you explain the dust on the inside of the last glass element on my Canon 50mm? Just curious. How DOES dust get into a prime?

No...it is definitely dust on the lens under the front glass. I can see the piece of dust on it looking thru the front of the lens! |
