I'm shooting an event 2mite & was wondering if I need to use the falsh diffuser for a medium-sized room.
thanks in advance

If the ceiling is not too high (more than about 12 feet) and is light-colored, I always bounce the flash off the ceiling. Works great if your subject distance is relatively constant and not too great, otherwise it's problematic.
If you can't bounce off a ceiling, I'd definitely recommend a diffuser; I use a lumiquest pocket bouncer where I've got nothing else to work with, and sometimes have been known to have someone hold up a 42" litedisc reflector and bounce off of that.

The bounce off the ceiling didn't work with my 50mm 1.8 lens. It was either to bright or had a shadow half way up the picture. |

Too bright? Why not knock your exposure down? |

I did and that's what made the shadow. |
