I, for one, am giving out only marks 5 through 10 on this challenge... Because of the overall terrible quality of the vast majority of entries :( If i were to rate it normally i would have to only give 1's, 2's and 3's 95% of the time... :(

It seems a lot of people define 'macro' as a 'semi-blurred shot of a random object found in the kitchen', not caring about quality, composition, impact or artistic appeal.

I think we need to think of a way not to limit the number of entries, but increase the quality of the entries.

Nothing personal against you, just ranting out of disappointment with what i've seen.

I have to agree. I was all excited because I thought I would see a lot of really cool shots, but the majority seem to be not so good. Not to say that there isn't any good ones. There's plenty of amazing shots, but just not near as many as I had hoped.

A score of 5 is the new 6.

LOL, I couldn't agree more, though I'm not going to adjust my scale. I said something similar to your quote in this thread.

Looks like I made the same mistake. (Avg Vote: 4.0930)

Tried to make small items look like it was originally very large. Too successful I guess. One comment says doesn't look macro even when I was working very close up with best macro lense I have.

O'well, live and learn. Just bought some close-up add on lenses last night to help with that problem.

getting a lot of "over sharpened" comments. Am I mistaken or does a close up macro not show detail? lol I sharpened my photo once in photoshop (filter, sharpen) nothing extra, nothing extreme.. o well, LOTS of great images out there!!!

Three great comments and 4.89 so far????? Makes me wonder if people use a 1 as a place holder to sort photos in the beginning of a challenge :)

This description of macro made me grin. :)

I am running at 5.5

The comments are very useful this time around, due to the fact they are telling me what my gut said all along. I should have listened to my gut. Instead I am listening to you guys. LOL.

Maybe once people get dinner in their bellies, they'll vote happier and more often :) BTW, I am making peanut butter cookies right now... If anyone wants to give me a good score and a constructive comment... *grin*

I was actually quite tempted to copy and paste this to a fair number of objects.
However, a few of these kitchen implements were actualy quite good.

A friend of mine told me this, and I just checked it out at encyclopedia.com. He said "a fruit is a flower", and the site agrees "matured ovary of the pistil of a flower, containing the seed"

So if a fruit is a flower, does that change the voting on all the Apple pics? (not in my mind, but I thought I'd throw that out there for discussion)

Crud. I solemnly swear to never use another border again in a challenge. ;-) I added a border to my image, and now I'm feeling the pain. My entry is at 6.27, but according to most of my comments, it would have been better without my 5 pixel border.

Crud. And double crud. I just wonder how well I would be doing in the challenge if I didn't have the border. Live and learn, I guess!

Just a tip on how not to take a Macro, I was trying to get this mantis and the darn thing had other plans. Nothing like looking through the view finder and seeing a bugs belly.

My wife took this pic and as her camera got closer it jumped on to hers. goofy bug.

I'm sitting a little over 5 with 4 comments and156 votes. I'm happy with this as it is a much better showing than the last 2 challenges

Unique approach to getting a macro of a mantis Andy....love the composition of the shot, ;) think I'd give this one an 8 or a 9 :P

Iam starting to wish we did have bugs and flowers, because i have not seen a lot of inspiring images in this challenge.
Or I could just have the blues from going through so many images anyway I look forward to some great bug shots.

Maybe because of it's reflection on the lens? Aren't they big on fighting? Or am I thinking of old kung-fu flicks?
