I'm in the market for a new monitor as mine is currently dying slowly of old age. Anyone have a recommendation for a particular monitor or brand? Or any good sites that discuss such things?

Thanks!!!

The number one thing about all monitors is that they all need to be calibrated. I use color vision, and it has worked well for me. As for the monitor recommendation, in the CRT world LaCie makes the very best monitors. On par with the old, now bankrupt Radius brand. On the LCD side, Formac makes LCDs that beat the top rated LCD monitor, apple's 23". The price is worth it if you need proper color grading and high black density (Dmax) reproduction. Both companies target the print and photo markets, have perfect tech sup, and I own both brands.

I have the same monitor at home, but it's actually TOO good. The brightness and contrast are superior to what the vast majority of voters on this site see, so you have to edit photos with that in mind.

Formac, has made some great displays, but they are no longer better-rated than Apple and they've had some serious issues with customer support in the past. I would only buy Formac if my budget didn't allow for Apple. I agree with the LaCie recommendation. NEC/Mitsibishi also makes some great CRT monitors- especially the SuperBright series.

So true about the "too good" comment. Let me correct myself. If you are looking to compete on dpc, just go to costco or price club and buy the cheapest peace of crap that they sell. Then you'll know what people really see. I come from the press world and would not be caught dead with a non-pro monitor. Oh, only if the AP would buy us all IBM T221 LCDs.

If pro monitors arn't in your price range (like me) I would highly recomend newer samsung LCD monitors. I currently use one and am extremely happy.
