I would have given your outtake a much higher score (at least 3 points higher). I didn't care much for the entries that created a 'ghostly' appearance, rather than a 'ghost town' (empty place that was either deserted or just unusually empty). Your outtake has a nice feel to it with the curved sidewalk as a visual path for the viewer.

Both are really good. I like the effect you got on the reflection in your entry. It would have done much better on another challenge but I like the outtake more for this challenge.

Thank you both for your input, Barry and Larry.

I agree -- the outtake "fits" the challenge better ...

I like the B&W version the best. It evens the scene out better as opposed to the color version which draws my eye to the carriage. The scene is cursed by the bright sun which creates unappealing shadows. It would have looked better if the light were more even but you couldn’t help that. I gave your picture a 6 because I felt it truly represented a ghost town. It was only one of the few that did in my opinion.

I was thinking the same thing. Colour often tends to draw one's eye to the wrong thing which is why my own colour photos are rarely successful.

I agree about the black and white. I wouldn't mind seeing the middle version in black and white too.

If I can, I'd like to go back to Marion's (jomari) outtake and entry, and engage in some persnickety parsing. To my sensibility, the ghostly entry is far more interesting than the empty mall outtake. The former is a sea of ghosts, whereas the latter is merely a scene without people. The usual understanding of "ghost town" is an abandoned human habitation, like a town or city, etc. But it can also be a town, etc., of ghosts. That the ghosts here are cars is even more provocative, as cars can be seen as shells of humans, or of humans past, so a second level of ghostliness. The whole idea of ghosts is interesting, and can take one in various directions.
Thank you, Marion, for prompting these thoughts.

Thanks, Rich. I'm pleased to hear that. I found my entry more interesting than the alternative (obviously, or I wouldn't have submitted it) and I was sort of excited about the ghostly reflections which I can't explain because they are just there to be seen through (not looking at) a single window.

I don't disagree with either of you ... in this case it's a question of "interesting" vs "in your face meets the challenge without thinking about it" and probably a higher score.

Here you go ... also a couple of duotoned* versions of the entry.

*Duotone using Black and PMS 147. The second one is an interesting experiment where the duotoned version is layered on top of the color version at 66% opacity.

Seeing all these versions I think that the duo-toned version of your entry is the best.

Thanks -- I kind of ran out of processing time and didn't get to that version until after the deadline.
