Since there's been some discussion on this, I decided to go ahead and build a little mini-tutorial of sorts on how to build a "poor-man's ring light". Have a look. There are some example photos there as well.

Thank you for that tutorial. I think I could build one of those! Great job on the writing and the pics to support the explanations.
