Greetings all!

I am looking for a talented soul to design/code my photography website. Ultimately, I would like said individual to customize one of the PS CS web galleries (so that I can upload/maintain/add to easily) with my logo as well as colors/style that would match the home page. That's the simple part... Here's where it'll get interesting... I would also like said individual to set it up so that prints can be purchased from my site; maybe with some sort of little icon link from the galleries designating which prints are for sale? I'm thinking the whole site will consist of an index page, 3 or 4 galleries, an ordering page for online purchasing as well as an online order form for those folks who would prefer to do it the old fashion way.

If you are talented in this area, please PM me with a rough esitmate as well as at least one link to a website that you have designed before. THANK YOU!!

p.s. I realize I could do most of this myself but before you post something to that effect, please understand that I do not want to do it myself. I'd prefer to leave it to an individual who is more technically inclinded than I so that I can concentrate on crazy stuff like taking pictures. Thanks again :-)

This is going to run pretty expensive considering the coding that's required. In consideration of this, have you looked at //www.smugmug.com and their $99 professional plan? You can use your own domain name, watermark, control access to large/original images, set prices (and let EZPrints take care of fulfillment) and most importantly, you can customize the headers, footers and background to your liking so your site is unique.

The infrastructure and coding is already set up and they're always listening to Photog's requests (and fulfilling them) at //www.dgrin.com.

And heck, unlimited photo hosting is a nice perk. It just seems like you might be able to get more bang for your buck.

Hi Jesus!
Yeah, I hear what you're saying and I have looked at what SmugMug has to offer. Not a bad deal at all but the one thing that really turns me off is that EZPrints will be doing the printing. I'm sure they are fine and all but I like to see what my customers are getting (before my customers do). The SmugMug sites look pretty nice; I actually like the galleries alot. But I noticed that many of them have this drop-down thing in the upper right hand corner that allows people to change from 'elegant' to something else. I also noticed that prices for prints aren't posted - you find out how much a print is once you have gone to your shopping cart. That strikes me as inconvenient. Perfhaps that can be changed but the print fulfillment is the deal breaker for me.

I appreciate your comments though!

Keep those PMs coming folks :-D

Cool beans...I'm glad you checked them out. :)

Here are my last few suggestions which may hopefully help out any tech-savvy photogs looking to set up an online cart or store.

There are several free shopping carts out there that can sell downloadable or mailable prints. They are //www.zen-cart.com and //www.oscommerce.com. I've personally used Zen Cart and found it a much easier to configure and set up than OsCommerce. There are many that will argue this point but ultimately, that was my personal experience. There are also shopping carts that can be purchased such as //www.x-cart.com which also come with rave reviews though it is a bit costly because it offers tech support. With ZC and OSC, you are stuck using their forums for help. ;) But the forums rocketh.

There's also another free solution that has a lot of support and 'extras'. It's called Mambo (www.mamboserver.com) and you can set up the PhpShop component to sell items via paypal. I haven't set that particular cart up yet but I may in the near future.

By the way, if anyone out there is asking themselves "what do i need to know to set up these free carts?"...here's a brief list...

Photoshop (or equivalent) to create the new buttons, headers, footers or graphic stuff.
FTP program to upload files.
Web host with PHP and MySQL to upload the files to.
Enough virtual space to actually *host* the images and pics ;)
Semi-decent knowledge of HTML and a bit of PHP to tweak pages and such. Mostly you just need to know how to stuff you don't want appearing :) You don't need to be a guru. You'll learn, too, as you go.

That said, good luck with your project and if you don't find the right developer, maybe you can tackle the project using one of my few suggestions.

You are a wealth of information, Jesus! The thing is, when it comes to a customers' credit cards, I don't want to fool around trying to do something myself, screw it up, and possibly cause someone a whole lot of trouble. Ya know?
