Ive been taking pictures since I can remember, about 1965. I started with a '50s Kodak Brownie camera like this:

My first SLR was an Exakta VX IIB, vintage 1958, which has been in the family since the early sixties; it belonged to a professional who used it on a beach shoot and got sand in it. It gravitated to my dad, who repaired it. I've been shooting with it since the early seventies. It's still in perfect working order today, though it does show the effects of nearly a half century of use.
I bought my current digital (Nikon 995) in December, 2001. The counter is now approaching 3,000 photos, and it's accompanied me around the US and the world. I'm looking forward to "going DSLR" sometime in the next two years.
There's no film in the Exakta...
Time marches on.

My husband bought a digital camera in October 2001 when he was in Hong Kong. Until then we had a normal film camera and I did the normal family snapshot thing. I was so taken by the digital camera and since then I have been hooked. Since joining dpchallenge I have started to learn about photography. In June last year when I joined I didn't even know what the rule of the thirds was, let alone F stops and shutter speeds! I was petrified of manual settings and had no idea of compostion. |

I'm a newbie to this site. I've been taking digital pictures for three years now. I decided to join this site because of the quality pics I've browsed accross. I'm excited about submitting a challenge shot to get critiques from some of you, especially after viewing some of the outstanding pictures I've seen here. I hope my pics are worthy.

Yep, I'm another one of those prehistoric foto fossils. Still playin' with light mud the same as I was twenty years ago.I've been guilty of family snapshots, nuclear sunsets, daisy poses and cat-can-do clicks like the more sane populace. With a few ribbons, prizes and shows along the way as one would normally encounter with this chronic affliction. When I can poke outta the closet and no one is looking my favorite intoxication is mucking around with impressionism, abstract weird stuff basically as an obsessive compulsive habit that edges into reality diversions a little too often. Since my first foto days (also with Pentax K1000) I've been relentlessly wallowing in image manipulation or non straight stuff. Back then it was with slide sandwiches, multiple exposures, dizzy camera or what have you.Over 4000 foolish exposures since my brain got digitally infected last summer.I like to explore the process of photography just because it can warp your normal life (assuptions/experiences) in a wink. I thoroughly admire other photogs who push their creative envelope to the max. |

Many, many moons ago I was into SLR still image photography. I started with a Mamiya-Sekor 500DTL then moved up to the 1000DTL, back when the days when the Nikon F2 was king. Photography combines technology and creativity. I like that.
I credit my oldest son for recently getting me interested again. He has a digital camera and I was shopping for a photo printer for him for Christmas when I noticed a Sony F707 on sale at an electronics store. The 5 Megapixels and price point made me think digital is finally arriving. I wound up buying the Sony F717 as a Christmas present to myself and have been having fun.
My son also introduced me to DPC. DPC challenges and talking photography with you folks has added to the pleasure for me.
