Hi all! If you are looking to get into the DSLR game, I have a package deal for you:

Canon 300D with the 18-55mm kit lens PLUS RC1 Remote Control PLUS 128 mb CF card PLUS Tamron 28-105mm f4.0-5.6 IF lens PLUS Canon bag! You will also receive all the MFG boxes, manuals, and software.

I have taken excellent care of this camera and everything is in perfect condition with the exception of the bag; It has a little dust from typical use.

Ahhh, that's sweet! But have no fear - I haven't left the Canon camp. God forbid!

There is a 20D with my name on it on a FedEx truck as we speak. Looking for it to show up sometime this afternoon :-)

Am I excited? Oh yeah! I'm actually kind of in shock :-o But it's happy shock!

Not at this point; I think the package is more valuable as well... a package!

But I do have an extra 18-55mm lens to sell; Brand new and never used.

Sorry I didn't specify... It's another kit lens: Canon EF S 18-55mm

One came with the 300D and one came with 20D (you can't get a 20D w/o the dang thing unless you want to wait and wait and wait and wait and...)

So I figure I'll sell the 20D's kit lens for cheap (no more than $90); For someone who needs a wide angle but doesn't use one often enough to justify the expense of a better one it'll be perfect.

Might want to rethink the price on the kit lens with the 20D. Yes, it is the 18-55 EF-S, but it has the USM focusing. Sells for almost $200 I think.

The 20D's 18-55 is a different version of the 300D Kit Lens? Are you sure you're not confusing it with the 17-80 EF-S with IS/USM?

Yeah, I think he might be... The kit lenses look identical.

They look identical.. Same lens, but the one with the 20D, I'm fairly certain, utilizes a USM motor, instead of the whatever it is that isn't USM that is used by the one that came with the rebel.

Interesting... but gee you'd think there would at least be a difference in the weight, ya know. No markings at all to indicate it's a USM either.

It's no matter though - I'm not looking to make a profit on the thing. I just don't want it :-)

True enough, just checked on Adorama. I'm amazed they didn't add some marking..

Ah, it doesn't having the USM gold braiding because it's not proper USM, it's Micro USM II.

UPS just dropped off my 20D. Gotta play with it and make sure it works.

What can Brown do for you?.... ;)

i'd be curious if the optics on the newer efs 18-55mm are any better.

Me too! I'll have to test it to see - would want to test it before I sold it anyway just to be sure I didn't get a dead one or something and then pass it on to someone else not knowing. That'd be rude, yes?!

Interesting info, Paul, thanks for checking :-)

By the way, in case ya'll were wondering... The 20D is sweeeeeet!
11/04/2004 06:45:11 PM · #22
I'm pretty sure the only change is the focus motor. Same less than perfect optics.
11/04/2004 07:26:50 PM · #23
i really have a hard time thinking why ( if the optics are the same ) canon would have gone so cheap to bundle it with the 20d.

shoot at f:8 only for anything more than 12-24" away.

Welcome to being seriously BADASS. You're going to like it here! ;)

BTW get ready to REALLY want L Glass. That's next.

A good alternative to the bank-breaking L glass are Primes. I have 2 zooms and 2 primes and the difference is amazing. If you don't have one already, the 50 1.8 is and absolute must have for just $79. My new favorite lens is the 100mm 2.8 Macro. The only thing missing from this lens that doesn't qualify it as an L lens is that there is no Red stripe. Other than that, you'd be hard pressed to find a flaw in it.
