Here's another question on camera bags, I couldn't find much after doing a search through the forum archives so here goes:
I've decided to ditch my LowePro CompuTrekker for something else - it just wasn't accessable enough when I needed it to be. I've decided a
waist/hip/chest pack would work out much better for me but despite several hours of product browsing, I haven't found anything I am completely sold on.
I'd like to be able to store at least couple lenses (including the 70-200mm f2.8L), a speedlite, at least one 10D or 1D body (without lens), and a couple filters/CF cards/press passes.
The Newswear chestvest's seem pretty sweet, //www.newswear.com/chestvests.htm, but I don't like how the pouches look like C4 strapped to your body.
I've heard good things about the Mountainsmith packs, but I'd like to have something that's geared towards photography rather than a general fanny pack.
Any suggestions? Any at all?

I'm with you on the accessability issue of backpacks. I'm using an old fashioned shoulder-hanging gadget bag.
Your link won't work for me. |

I have the LoweProwe Off Trail 1 (or is that 2?) waistpack.
It holds the Canon with the 70-200mm on it, and has two side compartments each capable of a lens that size.
The one I have is the bigger one of those two (I think it's 1). About $60. It also comes with a shoulder strap.

I use the Mountainsmith Tour Pack for my camera gear when trekking around the race tracks. |

I've had the same dilema for a couple of months now. I have an old tamarac bag from the days of film that I use to hold two lenses while the 10D body and a lens hangs around my neck. The 10D doesn't fit into the bag at all. In fact, any bag big enough the 10D end up looking huge hanging from the waist. I'll be watching her to see what people recommend....

I'm looking to augment my Computrekker, with something a bit smaller/more accessible. The Computrekker is, true to its name, great for big Treks with all your gear and a Computer.
It is difficult to work with when you want to change lenses etc, since you have to set it down and lay it back to open it.
I have been looking at the Lowe Stealth Reporter bags. I'm considering the 200, but they have MUCH larger models as well. The big thing for me is the accessibility of the contents through the top. The bag lid opens on top, but the lid also has a zipper that, when open, provides access to your camera without opening the lid.
I don't need a big shoulder bag, as I have my Lowe Pro35 from my film days. |
