I'm donating a matted, framed 13x19 print to the Chamber of Commerce for their annual silent auction. Should I sign the print or not? If so, with what? Thanks!

well...depends on your vanity I suppose! I would for sure sign and date the back. Whether you sign the front (if you decide you want to, I would suggest a very thin black felt), keep it small. :)

I'd sign the back as I already put my name and the print title on the front as part of the border etc.

I think you should sign the mat, in pencil.

Pencil isn't very permanent...Depends on your purpose/intended target market.
I sign all matted prints in silver or gold (depending on mat color) with a thin pointed permanent markers made by "Pilot" & found in your local Stapes store.

This decision was made after consulting with my framer who works with many local photographers.
I don't add anything to the print itself since I want to keep the look of a fine art piece & all prints are archivally printed, mounted, matted & framed.

Number it 1 of 1.

I'm just passing along what my daughter the art major told me: sign in pencil on the left side of the mat opening with the end of your signature lining up exactly with the end of the opening (does that make sense?) and if you want to title it that shoud be centered. I have photography buddies who use thin silver and gold markers that LtHousLady uses. I'd definitely sign it!

I recently donated two matted prints to a charity auction unsigned. Both of the purchasers asked me to sign them after they bought them.

The pens I have had the best luck with are ZIG Millennium markers, .05 or .03 available through most stationary and art stores or web sites.
