Hi, I normally use the JPEG from my camera, but I tried RAW this time and after working on it in photoshop CS, used 'save for the web', looked at the size and saved at 145k. That was on my home pc. Now I had mailed this to myself and tried submitting this at dpc ( for bizarre nature ) from my office pc and it says its above limit. I looked at it myself and found it to be 283kb now !!
I never saw this while working with camera jpeg, but this is happening with RAW. Did I miss anything ? Please suggest what to do?
thanks,
Gaurawa

Did you ever re-open your 145K image and saved it again in Photoshop?

Maybe something else is being added to the file by Photoshop? (EXIF info, thumbnail, etc.)
Look at the ACTUAL file size of the file on the computer where you saved it, maybe you just sent the wrong file... ? |

I will do that when I get back home. But i remember saving it for web with quality 75.
As giega asked, I opened it again ( now with photoshop 7.0, as I haven't installed CS at office pc yet) and saved again with quality 75 and it is now 146K ( as I it showed before at home). Now I am more confused. Will get back home and check things again.
I was wondering if it has to do with the #of bits used in jpeg on CS ? |

Did you adjust the file size from 3072 to 640?
If not when you try to save a file for web and optimize for file size (say 148k) even at the lowest jpg compression setting it may not be able to reach 148k.
On original size photos (3072) even with the lowest jpg compression setting it may only be 248k.

Yes, I reduced the size to 632, added a border of 8 to make it 640 and then saved for the web |

By the time you get into "save for web", the file format of the original image shouldn't matter. File size can differ from image size, but it's usually a small amount. I have encountered that when trying to use every bit of available space for a site that limited size to 50K. When you in the "save for web" view, you can optimize to file size and enter something like 147 to make sure you are under the 150K dpc limit.
