If I feel better I may join you guys. I work until 1:00pm so I may get down there a bit earlier if I decide to go.

Anybody have a better map then the one on the site?

I'm not sure which site you're talking about (the park has a good map) but here is a link to Yahoo Maps that shows the location. Their star is about a thousand feet off the actual location but once you get to the area it's obvious where the lighthouse is.

Well, folks, this was a spectacular evening to view the lighting of the Fresnel Lamp at Pigeon Point. The sky was clear, the wind was light and yes, you can't have everything, it was cold (by California standards). Here are a couple of my images.
This was shortly before the lighting and gives the general outline of the lighthouse (a braced shot with the S50).

Taken (on a tripod of course) with the D-Rebel you can see the rays fanning out. Maybe one of the DPCers who was there - or one of the on-site experts in night shooting can tell me how to do this better. This image falls far short of the spectacular view that was presented. I have a whole year to practice before this one happens again...

Thank you for posting, I was kind of tied up today -- but it sure looks like something to think about doing next year!

That early shot is beautiful.
