I find good portable lighting to be a major problem. Is there a cheap and effective way to get good lighting?

Site lights (used for working outdoors) are cheap and faily portable as far as lighting goes. They are available from most good DIY stores. Available in strengths from 150-500W and either on a tripod or with a handle.
