As we all know challenge themes are put forward by DPCers themselves.

That's registered users, members, SC and even Administrators.

I can truly understand how upsetting it must be when challenges suggested by registered users are set for members only or masters only challenges.

Would it be feasible to have an extra field added to the challenge suggestions database that notes whether the suggestion has been put forward for Open Challenges only, for Members Challenges only, for Masters challenges only or for ANY challenges?

Many of us who suggest challenge themes will likely stipulate that our suggestion can be used for any challenges but this would allow registered users to put forward suggestions that they would like to be able to participate in without the pain of then being locked out.

I think the response that they could always become members themselves isn't really a fair one - we do have an Open challenge every week so it wouldn't be a big deal to use those challenge suggestions made by registered users for Open challenges would it?

That's a very good idea.

Our challenge suggestions database currently only tracks topic, description, and date suggested. It does not currently have fields for additional notes or to track who made the suggestion. This is what led to nshapiro's suggestion being used for a Masters Challenge. We have also run into the situation several times where a Registered User's suggestion were used for a Members challenge.

I will forward this suggestion to Drew and Langdon and ask them to add "suggested by" and "notes" fields. Of course, this will not be much help for suggestions that are already in the database, but we can at least track that information moving forward.

Thanks for the suggestion,
Terry

I can understand there not being a field for this as when the suggestions database was designed we only had one kind of challenge.

I just thought it might be a neat idea from here on.

Where people don't specify that their suggestion is for a specific type of challenge it could be entered in under a heading of ANY.

While your suggesting to D&L for additional fields, how about one linking to the thread it was suggested in. We are encouraged to debate the topics before they are enacted to get the wording 'right', but often they are added to the database early in the thread -- and I wonder if they are ever updated as the thread continues. Being able to see the discussion during the selection process could aid greatly with the wording.
