A number of people in the past and present have asked for seperate challenges for different skill levels, groups of cameras, etc, etc..
In reality all of these can be achieved by offering result filters for each challenge. Such as:
Filter results by:
- Just my camera
- Cameras < X megapixels
- Everyone with my average score +/- 0.25
- Everyone within an age range
Ribbons can still only be offered to overall winners, but this could provide some interesting feedback without having the overhead of lots of seperate challenges.
I guess it could be implemented as an addition to the challenge_results.php page, by passing extra parameters to filter the results in SQL.

I'd like to go the other way. Why don't we have a 'camera information not necessary' option?
In the end, it's the quality of photo that's important, not the number of pixels, |

Try telling that to someone with a 0.8 MP cheap P&S.

The fact remains a good number of people have wanted to split entries by camera / camera class.
