Since some time every first photo taken with my crazy HP looks like this:
//www.earth.icenter.pl/~fred/graf/park-001.jpg
//www.earth.icenter.pl/~fred/graf/poverty-001.jpg
//www.earth.icenter.pl/~fred/graf/warszawa1_-001.jpg
Than, every second or third one is corrupted.
Any idea what is wrong?
I wonder whether I should service it or just throw it out.

Have you tried reformatting your CF card?

Yes. I format it every time before taking pictures. I have a brand new card. That was one of the reasons I bought it.

This definitely looks like corrupt JPEG files. In general, I would agree that it's a bad CF card. But if you've already tried that, I suppose it's possible that the camera could be writing corrupt data, probably due to firmware corruption.
I'd try yet another CF card, perhaps gentle clean the contacts on the card and card slot.

It clearly doesn't look like an optical issue looks like electronics problem more. The first thing I thought to whas the card also. I think you need to take it to a repair shop or something, is it still under waranty?

If you've experienced this with more than one card, it's quite unlikely it's the card. It could be either a hardware or firmware issue in the camera. If the firmware can be user-updated, I'd try that. If it cannot, try talking with HP and see if they can clearly diagnose the problem. If it's a hardware problem, or if HP is unclear on what it might be, then it just might be time to upgrade.

I had exactly the same thing with my S70, After trying different Memory Sticks Sony recommended that I return it to them for a service. As they couldn't tell me how much this could end up costing, I took it as a good excuse to get a new camera. So I guess it maybe worth ringing HP especially if it is still covered by the warranty?

there is an issue with hp cameras and cards that arent of a certain kind. there has bee sandisk cards that either will not work or that will corrupt the card. i believe that you should send the camera out for repair. not sure what they will do but if it is under warranty send it out. |

Thank you all. I also thought it maybe software problem or so. I'll check warranty (I think it should still be covered) and let the HP worry about it.
I'm so fed up, I'm definately getting new camera. I would like it to be reapired since, my daughter is very interested in it ;)

I've seen the same problem with several HP models, which is why I tell my friends to stay away from that particular brand. If you needed a reason to upgrade, this is it. :)

You need to send it back to HP directly. The way HP's repair system is set upmost camera repair places can't take it in.
