Post your outtakes from the Head Shot challenge here.

Entry ( I preferred the geometry of the background - yes, I could have cropped from the bottom but in my mind I was not so strict about head and shoulders and went for the composition. Was I right? )

Outtake

I prefer your entry. Gave it a 6 which was high for me in this challenge. With a crop - I just don't like the arms and purse/bag - I think it would have been a 7. Without the lettering on the t-shirt, probably an 8 or 9. But that's just me and I know you prefer natural and getting what you get and either way, I do think you entered the right one.

I missed voting on this challenge, but here's my two cents - I agree with nam regarding the choice of entry. Your outtake has very harsh lighting, IMO. Also, the crop on the entry probably hurt it's score. When I think "Head Shot" (outside of playing Call of Duty or other FPS video game), I think head & shoulders, fairly tight crop. Look at the top five. Something like this would have probably bumped you up quite a bit:

Thanks both of you.
To clarify, I was/am not looking for better scores but for a better picture.
Art, I did this cropping also but lost the geometry of colors and feel and thought that it did not improve the image

If I care about scoring (mostly just during DPL competition), I go through my images looking for a challenge entry, and I will first say, "Ooh, I like this one!" then I ask myself what would voters like and I pick a different one. ;-)

I gave it a 7. I thought the geometry and the background and the crop made the shot. I don't think it's quite as interesting cropped in.

I didn't think it was quite as "head shotty" not cropped. ;-)

Yeah, the whole "head shot" thing threw me. I thought head shot was people, not animals, so I didn't know what to do about that, and yet this one didn't bother me -- it seemed heady enough. ;)

I (obviously) didn't read anything limiting the type of "head" to be depicted -- the challenge description read "N/A". If I owned (or had access to) a big boat you might have seen a photo of "the facilities" ... ;-)

It was the combination of head and shot. No matter how I searched for it, it seemed to come up with the same definition, which specified people. One of the few times where I felt lost during voting. Didn't want to vote up animals when I didn't think it fit and didn't want to vote them down if I was misunderstanding the topic.

I really like the geometry. For my taste, the crop was good -- I probably tend to give the photographer more leeway than many in interpreting the theme. What I thought you might have gotten wrong is the white balance. I personally thought he looked a little green.

Thank you all. Always interesting to get various opinions

Mark, you might be right but in your exercise you lost the yellow that I thought was important. I did count on the colors - I am relieved that none of you preferred the little girl shot.

Well, think about it this way.

Actors/Actress (and wait staff in CA) go to an audition, they are required to bring a head shot. Same with animals, they HAVE to have a headshot. So animals are So included in this. A cat named Bruce would turn up for a dog commercial, imagine if Lassie was a PitBull. Think it would be the same movie or TV series? (((PS I own a Pit-bull, so not bashing here)))
