Is there a difference between the $50 Canon BP-511A and the $10 "generic" BP511A battery? The specs are identical, both will fit the camera, both have the same battery life.....what is the difference between them? Thanks.

generic batteries tend to not last as long. for the price difference it might be worth a try... but if the battery is something funky, and it messes up your camera, canon won't cover it if it's not an "approved" battery. so make sure the battery says it's specifically for your camera.

I bought the Lenmar equivalent which was much cheaper than Canon (like $24) and appears to be a better battery than the Canon. Only problem ironically is that it's a bit tighter to fit in the Mach I charger, but it's not tight, and basically not different than the Canon, fit in the G2 or Rebel camera.

Edit: Forgot to explain: The irony is that the Mach I is a Lenmar charger!

Generic works just fine. I have two from the following company. I bought a charger at the same time. The charger is dual voltage and comes with the car adapter to boot. I t also seems to charge the batteries (Canon ones as well) faster than the Canon charger.
