I took this the other day and was messing with it in PS and ended up with this.
What do you think?

Blackdog,
Nice photo, interesting color and technically good. My question is what are you trying to communicate with it? I think maybe it would do a bit better with some of the original color back in it.
Just my 2 cents. |

I think I was trying to convey a feeling of emptyness and that the machine was "abandoned"?
The full colour version was just to "ordinary" an everyday shot.

The topic has had lots of views but not many comments, even if you don't like it I'd appreciate it if you said why, even if you just think its cr@p.

One thing to remember with composition is that each design element should have a connection to the next. As has been mentioned your main subject stops right at the transition point into the empty sky. What could probably help is a lower vantage point so your main subject actually protrudes into the empty sky. Also, by shifting your position to the left you would probably lose the pole that others have commented on.
Old rusted farm equipment can make very interesting subjects. Explore all angles. You never know what you might discover.

I agree with most of the comments, lowering the viewpoint may lose the distant view which, in my opinion makes the picture.
I would try lowering a little and slightly back, the colours here all seem to blend into one large mix, maybe a duotone of sorts would work here, amazing how a sepia tint can emphasize that feeling of isolation and bareness,
Just my opinion, you asked :)
Good luck,
Paul.
