A big CONGRATS to kosmik. That's the first actual payout to a photographer that I've heard about from any of these new low price stock sites. |

I would just like to announce that I joined shutterstock.com, istockphoto.com, dreamstime.com, and canstockphoto.com all on the same day- 11/19. I have uploaded a total of about 30 photos to each site (depending on size restrictions- I have a few that are too small for some sites).
istock still hasn't looked at a single one of my uploads.
canstock has turned down 52% of my uploads.
dreamstime has approved 7 uploads, the rest still pending.
I haven't made a cent on any of the above sites and I've had very few views.
shutterstock has approved all but one of my submitted images, all very quickly. I've had at least one upload a day- today I had 3.
And I've made $1.20.
I'm sold!
Thanks Jon.

Certainly is a good feeling, I started at Istock its now at 0.40 cents then Dreamstime its now at $2.00 and last but not least Shutterstock now at $13.43. Only had 1 day without a download and that has happened in only 21 days.

You can now modify keywords, descriptions, and categories!
You guys were talking about it here - just wanted to post it.
Look for the pencil :)

Well, after a few weeks I've got about $4.70 on shutterstock...I was getting 3 or 4 downloads a day for about a week and a half but now I've only had 2 downloads in the last week! Is this thing slowing down for anybody else?
I guess I should upload more photos...I've got 18 up there now. |

Yeah, they slowed down a little for me too (but seemed to have picked up a bit today). I surpassed the 100 mark today and am at 102. I'll be quitting my day job now. |

I`ve had 86 downloads this month :)
But if the dollar gets any weaker against the pound i will end up owing shutterstock money.

I finally uploaded 16 images on Tuesday night (11/23) and as of tonight (11/24) I have one download :)
The image downloaded was one I did for the Shallow Depth Of Field challenge and did not enter.
I have a lot of "snaps" that I do not plan on doing anything with and I figure I can upload quite a few more.

ShutterStock sales are up 250% - so you guys should be seeing some good downloads... We're agressively promoting the site in several channels - and will widen this budget significantly starting 1/1/2005. |

I've gotten 1 in the last week, even though I was getting several/day when the 'rush' was on a few weeks ago...
Anyone else experiencing serious slowdown? |

It may have been because of the holiday. I got only a couple of downloads between Wednesday and Sunday and then 4 today so far. |

Wow -- That will be awesome if traffic to the site and sales goes up. I've already had 8 downloads and that's with only 8 total submissions over the past couple weeks. I plan on shooting a lot more as soon as I'm done working so many hours a week at work. Gotta work on some better lighting for my light tent too.
Good work -- keep those customers coming and we'll keep the photos coming!!!

I started upload 6 days ago, now have 74 images on-line and already 50 downloads or 10 USD.
I think their big difference to e.g. istockphoto is the fixed monhtly fee that subscribers pay, which allows them to download as much as they want, instead of a fee per download.
A risky business model. If people download 600 or more images per month, the fee to photographers is higher than the income from that person.
I just hope that on average between all users the number of downloads is low enough to leave a profit to the site owner as well. |

Jon is well aware of that issue and has been making adjustments along the way.
From what I have seen and heard both Shutterstock and photogs are very happy with the way things are going.

Hi Melissa, how many photos have you by shutterstock?? Heaps.
What about other Stock sites, and how are they comparing.
I have my first model shoot tonight with a male college of mine. They will be the first images with my home made soft boxes, so I want to see how they come out before organizing a group session.
I am 1/4 of the way to my first payout, and I hope a few business/people pictures will boost my sales a bit.
I am looking foreward to trying the keywords in the exif feature. Does this also work on other sites?

I have 365 photos on Shutter stock and it is a great site, I am getting almost as much on shutterstock as I am on other sites...Istock is still the best for me so far, but shutterstock will soon pass istock in sales for me per month! The new upload exif works great, dreamstime and istock also have this. great time saver!
I need to get a model...hehe
