Two big advantages to the FTP workflow:

Most FTP clients can resume an upload after a connection is broken without having to start all over again; this is especially useful for people with unreliable dialup.

You can upload a bunch of photos unattended, and return later (within 2-3 days) to enter the keywords/descriptions and submit them for approval. With the HTML upload you have to wait for the upload to finish and enter the info immediately.

yes- ftp is much faster and more efficient.
as far as submitting rejected photos - please dont do that yet - we will come up with a list of what we do want/do not want.. and then it will be clearer what you guys should upload :)

Please don't wait 2-3 days!
24-36 hours at most ... that way our system can process everything in stride...

Not quite, Discover Freedom with 1241 posts is the longest "real" thread. DPC Record Attempt -- created specifically and solely to overtake it as the most-posted thread -- managed 1528 examples of inanity before someone went over the edge and the thread was locked, so it may yet lose its #1 ranking.

Sorry, I went by something I read in the forums about how long they'd remain there before being purged. If people are like me, they are most anxious to get the info posted and the photos submitted right away anyhow.

I uploaded some photos that need a models release at around 7:00pm. I got an email stating that I need to have the model release faxed to you within 12 hours. Don't you think that is a little soon? I am not going to leave my house to find a fax machine at this time of night.

How about making that 24 hours to get the fax that way it gives people who submit at night a chance to get it to you.

Thanks!

Like a fool I saw this thread and ignored it as I was just starting to look into using some of my old outtakes etc on Istock and Dreamtime. Well just out of curisoty I opened one of the pages abot 12 or something and liked what I saw. I aranged all my folders so they could follow a logical pattern and downloaded 9 photos to Shutterstock 3 nights ago, 1 sold straight away! Downloaded 12 more and another 2 sold, Mmmm a few more and more sold. Its great so now I'm going crazy downloading to SS, sorry I didn't see the referal thing before I started there :(

I noticed it now costs $99.99/month for subscribers to download...

Jon, did the average number of downloads increase or is it just that you're getting a lot of new business and are able to bump the price (which is still a great price for unlimited downloads!)?

By the way, it seems there are a lot of people impressed with what you're doing here (I'm one of them!)...it really seems like response has been good both from submitters and subscribers!

If you scan/photograph the releases, you can upload them right along with the photo. Put them in either JPEG or Acrobat PDF format.

Also, you may be able to send the image from your computer -- most have a modem with FAX capability.

I have a scanner but it doesn't want to work for some reason...sooo I have to fax it from outside the house.

Has anyone received a rejection notice other than "Too many like it on site/Not needed right now?"

I'm just curious if there is also a "this picture sucks/we don't want it on the site" rejection notice or if the previous message is used for all rejections. I've had a few rejected and having looked, it doesn't appear that there are any that are similar at all. I am completely fine with the rejections, just somewhat confused about the whole what's needed formula.

My only rejected photo was this one:

The reason cited was that it was too dark, which is definitely fair...

I got a few in the beginning that said "Photo is of poor quality", which I found interesting as Istock who has a more strict approval process approved it. The rejection notices do seem a little too generic and blanket used.

Awesome idea! Thanks so very much!

I received 2 rejections because they were landscape shots. To many like them.

I got a couple of rejections saying "Photo of poor quality" Basically all my submissions were accepted except for a few in 1 batch. Possibly the new employee they have.
What surprised me was I got an e-mail saying I should set my categories better or the photos will be rejected, and they have corrected the problem. The only changes I saw were a photo of an indoor pool, and hotel room interrior were changed to Religious!!. I think I had them in Holiday, which I wrongly interpreted to Vacation, therefore I had the hotel stuff.
Here is the Religious pool, With a frame.

Just got a few more photos reviewed...The "too many like it/not needed" reason was given on a few of the rejections. The few that got rejected were fair as they were fairly unmarketable (more of the 'not needed' column, rather than 'too many like it')...

The rejection for this photo said "Unusable due to advertising - cool photo though!" so that was kind of nice!

I now have 16 photos on shutterstock...

I just submitted the photos again and they rejected them again because of no model release. I was on my way out the door to fax them the releases. What am I doing wrong here?

Does shutterstock have a portfolio concept like dreamstime? I wanted to provide a link to my photos on shutterstock, but I cannot figure out how.
