LOL! I wasn't real inspired by this challenge, and expected a lot of cliches (pencils, apples, chalkboards, schoolbus shots, etc.). I decided not to bother with this one for lack of an original idea. On my way to work this morning, like every other day for the past 6 years, I passed a little white 1700's-era schoolhouse set against a backdrop of colorful maple trees. DOH! Hey, Agua... can I borrow your camera? |

IMO when someone sees a thread titled, “School Days – Not Impressed” that quick after voting started it may influence there voting pattern. You say you will go back and adjust your vote but you cannot adjust an impression you may have made on someone. Now should they vote differently because they saw this tread, no! But subconsciously it’s human nature. |
I think you've made a good point, though... |

Scalvert,
You have some great photos in your profile. I need to just relax and sit out a few challenges instead of entering weak ideas.

No It isnt you, I have just had my first run through and I feel the same. I really tried to put a different slant on mine, make it very different, and its heading toward the wooden spoon if it makes 4 I'll be surprised. I think it is the voting as well.Originally posted by dartompkins: I have to say I am a little disappointed in the School Days turnout. I finished a quick run through. One or two are sticking out of the crowd, but not many.
Is it just me? |

Hear Hear you are so right.Originally posted by SDW65: I all do respect the beginning of this thread was way to early to give it such a negitive title. The 1st post was @ 1:29:32 am only 89min and 32 sec. into voting. That would give a voter only 27 sec. to look at each entry in a perfect world. But if you are participating in other forums during that timeline [thread not disclosed- 10/20/2004 01:20:48 AM] tells me that you were through looking at all the entries by that time. That means now you only took 24 sec. to look at each entry. Now if you were looking at the complete image [not the thumbnail version] you would have to account for 5 sec. to click on the picture, hit the back button, and click on the next picture - now your down to only 19 sec looking at the picture.
I do not believe someone can adequately judge a photograph in 19 seconds for 1hr. and 20min. consecutively. The only other way to view a photo for more than 19 sec. in this timeline is by looking at the thumbnails. To me this is even worse because you cannot see the details. That’s why many people vote photos a '1' for submitting a small photograph.
I am not trying to be the odd ball here but I hope people can see my point that you must take time to look at a group of photographs before publicly offering a negative opinion on the complete challenge. Because it makes others become negative.
Another poster said they had already voted on the challenge and it was @ 1:32:38. If they started at 12:00am that only gave them 92min and 38 sec. to vote on the challenge. That’s only taking 28 sec per photograph and if you take out the time it took them to find this post, read, write their thread, and post it – well you see it would be around 26 sec. per picture vote. Take into account it takes an average 3 sec to go between photos so now that only give 23 sec. per picture to decide your vote. [ I get my time from my connection speed of 3mb/ a fast download speed].
I know these people will go back and look at the challenge again and probably adjust their votes but the damage has all ready been done with a negative post only 1hr and 20 min. into a challenge.
All I’m saying is give other people time to go through the challenge before starting a negative thread. You maybe influencing a person’s vote, maybe a person that is voting on your photograph as well, if you entered. |

Perhaps on the flip side I can add that I was not impressed with how people took my shot.
The focus of the shot is obvious, its sitting right there, but apparently at least one person doesn't know what it is. I guess unfortunate for me, but I thought such things are rather ubiquitous. |

I'd rather people keep comments like that to themselves, because it really doesnt help me improve any.

I agree 100%. Just to tear something down without offering a way for the receipient of the comment to change the photo is counter productive. I always try to make a positive comment even if it isn't that great of a photo. Maybe the idea is excellent but poorly executed. It is best to put a positive spin on your comments and be humble enough to realize that my comments are not the definite word on any photo. |
