I'm not going to go out and get a new camera tomorrow or anything, but I'm just curious as to what for example this camera FUJI Film FinePix 4.0 has over my Sony DSC-p52 (besides .8 megapixels. I just saw it while I was walking through best buy looking for a memory card and it caught my eye.
Sorry if this is a stupid question, just looking for opinions. I know the answer should probably be obvious, but it's not to me....and I don't want to take the advice of some salesman (or I at least want to be somewhat informed with other's opinions before I listen to a salesman).
Also...I guess it would be stupid to assume that the Fuji would take the same memory card as my Sony dsc-p52, right?
Thanks.

I'd check out //www.dpreview.com and look at the reviews for both.
Also, the Sony uses Memory Stick and the Fuji uses xD memory, according to DPReview

Firstly it is a 4MP camera not 8MP but still a grade up from the Sony. Bearing in mind that it is Sony who make the CCD Sensor for most cameras these days it is also worth noting that at the start of the digital camera era it was indeed FUJIFILM that was race leader by a far way at the beggining and they still make very nice machines today.. In fact I am looking for a FUJIFILM S1 as a back up to my Nikon.
I think you will be impressed with the step up from Sony to Fuji and you will need a new memory card as it will not be the same for sure, however they do supply a worthless 16MB card for you to test out your new toy.
It has a manual mode (not sure the sony does) which will be helpfull when considering the big step to DSLR. Fujifilm lenses are very good quality too. It will definately be a step upward from the Sony but the thing to consider is the way it feels in your hands, pick it up, play with it, shoot a few in the shop and close your ears to the sales banter until you are ready to ask the important question....
'what kind of super deal are going to give me?'.. most places here in Japan will throw in a 128MB memory card for free at least if you are paying cash.. use the advantage of the fact that loads of shops sell this camera for a range of prices so why should you buy from them.. ask those questions GET THE BEST DEAL HE WILL OFFER then shop around for a better one. Hope this was some help |

Great post alionic, thanks for the advice! So in your eyes, it's definately "a step up" that's basically what I was looking for. Does anyone else feel the same way or is it not enough of a step up that I should just hold off until I'm ready for something "better"?
Also, just to note, I said " .8 megapixels, not 8 mp -- as in 4.0 mp minus 3.2 mp) :-) |
