Yes, it's almost that time again, for us Canadians, (and others in the Northern Hemisphere).. Winter. Snow, ice, breath that turns solid in midair and falls to the concrete in shattering little crystals.. You know of which I speak.

My dilemma is the Fujifilm Finepix S7000. How the HECK do I keep this camera warm enough on the colder days, in order to get out there and shoot wintery stuff? Does anyone have experience with how well it handles cold? Do I need to put the money away and buy a thermal case for it? I'm just looking for options here, and thoughts from people with this camera, or similar prosumers, that know what winter can do to a digital.

Thanks.

My 602 occasionally fogged up during very cold weather, just acclimatise it slowly, don't keep it too warm ie. in the car.

I was in Finland this last January, about 50 miles from the artic circle. I kept my camera inside my coat until I wanted to take a picture, it seemed to work well enough. Thankfully, I didn't stay outside the car for long. Brrrrrrrrrr.

Other than condensation, which can be dealt with by slow acclimatization, and lesser battery life, - keep a spare in an inside pocket (or your drawers if you don't have an inside pocket), cold will have no adverse affect until it gets really cold, like way below 0 degrees F. Your digicam can take the cold better than you can. Don't remember his name but there was a guy here last winter telling about using a 10D (I think) in Alaska to shoot the aurora, he convinced many that cold is not that bad for digicams.

Get yourself some Dessicant Drying Packets the same as those found when you buy electronic items. You know those little packets that say "Do Not Eat".
