I have been using a friends sony dcs-707 and am looking at purchasing the fuji s602 pro i don't really like the 707 much it has some quirks that really bother me and the s602 pro seems to be te camera for me now my question is do you feel this camera is worth the money or might there be a better choice and if you have used this camera how is it for printing say 8x10's from a digital lab

I have a Fuji s602. It is great. I liked the Sony 707 (at the time, there was no 717), but it was a bit weird to hold. Others love it, so it is probably a love/hate thing.

I think the s602 is the best all around (cost included) camera available right now. It has all the "point and shoot" settings, has a complete line of manual and scene specific settings, has a good optical zoom length of 6x, has Compact flash, Smart Media, and Microdrive support (1 slot for CF/MD and 1 for SM), and lasts a LONG time on one set of 4 rechargable AA batteries.

In it's 3mp mode, an 8x10 print looks great, but it is printer dependant. I use a Canon s900, so they look great. A friend has a Canon s9000 (wide printer) and I took a couple of pics from the s602 taken in it's 6mp mode and printed them at 11x14 and they look great too.

As I have told others, I would not hesitate to buy a s602 if you want a very capable camera that you can grow with and use for a long time.

I've had my Fuji for about six months and I am delighted with it. I have an HP 7350 printer and the 8x10s are great on Kodak paper. I have shipped out files to a pro lab for larger prints and I was equally pleased.

All in all a great camera.

Have you tried looking around and buying online? The prices online are very often cheaper than from stores.

Yeah - I bought mine on Ebay and saved $200 off the retail price (though you'd probably lose the savings in shipping costs....). When shopping on Ebay, just make sure you research your chosen vendor before you start bidding. This will ensure that you have a "happy successful Ebay experience."

I like my S602 very much. It has a lot of features that will allow you to grow as you learn more about photography. 8x10 prints on an "all in one" HP printer are very good. It helps to use the best quality photo paper that you can afford.

I've had mine since Sept 2002. I love it. It was my 2nd digicam in 1 year, so I decided to get one that I could grow into. I researched quite a bit, and it was the best I found, short of going to a digital SLR ( much more $$$ ). It has a great SLR feel to it.

I'm sure you'll love it.

As a matter of fact, i'm in line to buy one of these as soon as my tax return check come back. I did a lot a research as well and the olympus 4000 was a close second, but i simply enjoyed the feel of the 602.

stinkin, slow irs...

Oh, what is the diffrence between the s602 and the s602 pro?

Has someone confused it with the S2 Pro, perhaps? I was not aware of an "S602 Pro".

PC flash sync, cable shutter release, all-black finish, 340mb microdrive.

here in canada its a little more money its selling for about 1100-1200 which is a good price but if i can wait and save a 100 or so i'll wait I'll just keep shooting film till then

I don't know where in Canada you are, but in Montreal you can get the S602Z (not the pro) for can$1000. Go to //www.simonscameras.com. I think you can buy on-line, and have it shipped anywhere.

Good luck.

I bought mine in Vancouver last July for about Can$1100, so i would imagine a street price of $900- 1000 would be reasonable by this time.

JAK actually your right i can prob find the s602 for around $900 but i'm gonna hold out for the pro model the 340mb microdrive and the cable release make it worth it for me

I understand about the cable release (it is perhaps the one thing I really miss) but the 602z already has slots for both 340Mb and 1Gb microdrives so I don't think that would be worth waiting for.

If you are in Canada, please make sure that it is going to be sold there. What I heard of it, was that it is a European model only. The next camera in the 6900/602 line will probably have those features as standard along with the 6mp HD cdd or the 3mp HR ccd (more dynamic range).

I don't miss the flash sync, you can get an aftermarket part for that to fit on the hotshoe. The cable release is useful, but I can overcome it by using the 2s selftimer. There are a lot of good deals on microdrives, probably cheaper as the Fuji deal and the grey/black finish on the original 602 was on purpose; it highlights the differences between camera control (lcd/evf/grid etc) and photo control (exposure settings, zoom, flash, etc).
