i'm thinking of entering the school days challenge, my first in a long time here. i've been away from the voting insanity for a while. i have several great photographs imho that i have taken but i'm not sure what exactly people are going to consider school days.
-macros/still shots of school supplies
-portraits of the school itself
-school buses
-class bell ringing
-students in and out of class
what are your thoughts on these. specifically students though

I think there will be a few of each in the challenge. |

I'm positive there will be at least one of each that you have mentioned in this challenge.
Would "Grazed knees with elasto-plast on them" be counted as school day things? |

This could be an easy or a hard challange, shoot some pencils and you're done, RIGHT?! Well now, "'good ole golden rule' days"; so what now... are we talking about old school days, like the 50's? Or what the phrase stands for ---- "treat others as you would have them treat you"??? Now what? On top of all of this, photograph something that represents education.
So, now it gets complicating. However, I think that's what it's all about, perspective and creativity. Shooting a picture of a Yellow School Bus, sure you have a topic for the challenge but it just needs more oomph!
Who knows, I'm stuck myself ...
All the best :-0 |

As a worldwide site, we may see different subjects. I don't think every country has yellow buses. Correct? |

Very true 'faidoi', global thinking! I think what I'm saying is that the extra phrase in the challenge details about ...good ole golden days... seems a little confusing. That's why we have these challenges, and it's the variety of photos that makes it interesting.
So, what color is your school bus ;-) Completely Correct! |

I don't think all countries use #2 pencils either. |

I was thinking about anything that relates to education in any form. But looks like everyone is only talking about schools |

I have a few good ideas, but they are all based around typical english school scenes, the problem is the international perspective of this site - what might reflect the school life as I know it might well be misunderstood by the voters (what's new?).
Back to the age old question, do I enter something that's good for me or something that safe for the voters?
C'est la vie

Ahh, the dilema... well, ask yourself this: are you into photography more to please yourself, or more to please others? After having answered that question, will a pat on the back satisfy your needs more than your own satisfaction and expression of your art?
Personally, I'd say be true to yourself. |

Its a wide open subject I am having a little bit of gentle fun with mine, I hope this time that people see the point of my sense of humour!!!. The shot and the idea just presented itself to me on a gentle sunday drive, and I wasnt even looking. |

I would like to see british school scenes. This is what makes this site internatinal. It's about diversity of culture, not about universal message.
Just do what your heart is telling you. Have some hope in voters :)

'corbis' is always a good search engine,
this was considered 'education'

I would say that this might fit one of the 'golden rules' that are sometimes used in schools. For instance - "Do Be Kind and Gentle - Do not push shove and fight". Maybe? |

Or ummm - "Do listen to one another - do not interrupt", Perhaps? |

Wait, so does the challenge have to portray one of these "golden rules" or just represent education? Just trying to clarify, I seemed to miss the topic last time around, so I'm just checking. |

To me IT IS education. I wish there will be more pictures like that in the challenge :)
Maybe I think so, because I have 3 kids?

I don't know. It was just one of several interpretations I had to the challenge, I guess. (bit out of the box though maybe?) |

....anyway, isn't a 'golden rule' still education? |

Me too (sitting out). Haven't entered the communications challenge either. Just kinda 'watching, listening and learning' for a bit. |
