I dont think firmware is pre-installed most of the time, but it's easy enough to download it from the canon website, put it on your CF card, and then the camera will install it automatically.

The way they have been selling you will more than likely get one with the new firm ware 1.0.5 .I have no problems with the new firmware.Excellent choice I am sure you won't regret it.

Hey welcome Nova!
I installed the new firmy about a week ago and put it through the tests over the weekender with absolutely no probs/lockups (unlike the lockups I've had before with the previous firmware) so I'm pretty confident you won't face any problems! |

BTW you will love the camera. There might be a slight learning curve if you're coming from a non-DSLR, but if you are keen you will have no problems.
My cam came with version 1.0.2. I had no problems before and none since I upgraded to 1.0.5. It is always recommended to upgrade the firmware, even if you are not experiencing the problems outlined in the fix. BTW, it's really easy.
Oh yeah, and welcome to DPC. prepare to become addicted to photography and this site... as Mario exits forums to click on update button...
