I have an eTrex and an eTrex Legend... both B&W... I'd go for the Legend C, like bestagents mentioned... it's not far from your price range, and it's probably the best deal for the money right now. My next one will definitely be color!

From what I've seen, I think that all of these PDA GPS solutions are all PC-based so I'd have to use VPC with my PowerBook. I'd really hate to do that since VPC is so damn slow.

I wrote to another company, Tomtom, and hope that their solution is better and computer-less. If I uderstand their website correctly, their product has all the maps installed on a single SD card so you just insert that into the Palm device and connect the antenna. I emailed them to get more info.

You might look into TOPO! I have it on my computer and PDA (never use the PDA though, since I have a GPS). the software allows you to download maps into the PDA, and coupled with a PDA GPS would work.
TOPO! is a great program on MacOS. I still have the beta version I tested for them, so unable to connect my ancient GPS to it to download waypoints, but it is all good. They want another $45 to upgrade it.

I'm glad I didn't buy that Palm T5 afterall. I've been reading some threads over at brighthand and there was one user who bought one and it was crash prone. Then there was a link to a cnet article with a video that showed it crash at least twice. Maybe this guy had a bad T5? Maybe Palm needs to release an update to PalmOS 5.4? Maybe it's just doomed period. Whatever the reason, I might actually start looking at a PocketPC or a dedicated GPS unit instead. I was so close to having a very good Mac-compatible PDA/GPS solution with the T5 and Mapopolis.

PS: Many people seem to like their Tungsten T3 and C PDAs so I guess I could consider those. Any one here with either of those?
