Sorry if this is a repost. If so, please point me toward the thread.
Is Selective Desaturation legal in basic editing? I ask this because there was a pic in the top 25 in "Parts" that used SD, and people had nice comments about it. There is also one or more in "Communication."
My understanding of the rules is that SD is illegal in basic editing.
EDIT: Never mind, I think I found the answer in the DQ rules.

So it is illegal? Crap, now I'm confused again.
If it is possible to do SD by doing something to the whole image, then it is legal. If you have to select a certain portion of the image, then it is illegal. |

It's actually legal. There's a tutorial on it even.

it depends on how it's done. If you select an area, and desat everything else, then it's illegal. If you use the hue/saturation option and desaturate all colors but the colors in the subject, that's legal.

| If you us DS on the complete image then it is legal. What I mean by that is if you take a picture and DS the red channel [or any color channel] on the complete photograph then its legal. If you select an area of the photo and DS one or two areas, then NO its not legal. Just remember whatever color you are DS,ing must be done on the complete image not selective. |

| Just bringing this up as a reminder that desaturation can be accomplished legally in basic editing. |

This isn't avery skillful job, but here's a quick example of "selectice desaturation" applied legally under basic editing rules, using hue/saturation and selective color applied to the entire image:
