I have great respect for wedding shooters, working in conditions that are almost impossible, having to deal with very specific expectations...giving very little creative room... and now having to deal with all the "discount" shooters out there.
Here's my thing, in 2004 it's a quasi impossibility to make money off photography...everyone and their cousins are photographers now.. I make money, I even make good money...but that is because I developped a niche. I think photography is like all other art forms... your lucky if you sell. |
Oh man do I agree. Thanks for posting this. I work my ass off during (not to mention before and after) weddings to make a buck. The amount of people-relations including psychology you've got to throw in alone should be enough reason to double your price.
And I'm in Calgary, the capitol or photographers in Canada. You can't throw a rock out the window without hitting at least two. And they all think they're better then the next guy. |

I am in exactly the same boat.
I have bought a gouse in Munich, the most expensive place for realestate in Germany. Also have 2 children, a wife & a cat. I would like to find a way for my photography to pay for my photography. I don't necessarily need extra cash, however that 20D & lenses that I dream about seem out of my reach. Better said I can't allow my self to spend 2000 Euro on my hobby, and refuse my wife to buy her 100 pairs of new shoes and handbags! |
