I am quite a novice when it comes to what is available. I have a Nikon Coolpix 5700. When I can manage to catch a good shot, it is great, but I am really frustrated with the shutter delay. I was pretty good with my old Minolta 35MM and zoom. Now I take more pictures of ears and backs of heads than anything. I know about the practice practice practice theory and the anticipate the shot and prefocus approach. The truth is, I don't see me ever being able to anticipate the next move of my very quick kiddo much less any moving animals etc. There is just too much delay. What would I need to get (Canon or Nikon) to get the same feel as I had with the old Minolta? I prefer not to go bankrupt in the process, but I am desparate. Is the Canon 10D what I need? If so, does anyone want to get rid of one? Please help. Thanks. |

I like Canon and depending on your budget you have the choice of 300D, 10D or 20D.
I would suggest visiting a local camera shop and handling them, also think what lenses you would need, there is plenty of advice here to help you.
A camera is a personal thing, what suits one person may not suit you. So, go and play and annoy the local shop assistants. |

yeah like formerlee said, you gotta go to a shop and try them out. if you dont' have any money invested in lenses already, then you can basically choose from any system out there right now. if you want speed, you'd have to start at like a canon 20d, or a nikon d70, and you could work up from there depending on your budget. definitely go try a few out and see how you like 'em!

I would recommend the new Konica-Minolta 7D, when it comes out shortly. The lenses are many, very high quality and low cost, as well. In addition, if you're going to be shooting fast moving subjects, the body comes with built in image stabilization and so you will not need a tripod and it will be great for shooting in low light. If you already have Minolta glass, then this is a no brainer. |
