I was out taking pictures today, and these are some of the results. This is my first time taking pictures of birds in flight. Please let me know what you think.

Personally I like number 2 the most. It has interesting colour. I would be tempted to crop the image to leave just the middle bird and the boats with a bit of greenery behind. It seems a bit busy as it is.

I think number 1 comes second. The composition works well and the bird is contrasted well against the water. This might be interesting in black and white.

Wow - I rather liked number 4. But thanks for the input

... i like number 5 most.. would be perfect with a tighter crop... for the direction the bird's flying, it seems to be fleeing the shot

Hope you can appreciate an honest opinion here.

Of all 5, I only see #3 as being a decent shot. Birds in flight are NOT the easiest to capture and much of it depends on the camera settings and what kind of camera/optics are in use. I have seen what the 10D can do, and these fall very short IMO.

Are these a very small section of the original image? Too tight of a crop to compensate for lack of a longer focal length? Something is amiss in the shots. Noisy , lacking detail, etc. Are you perhaps shooting at too small of a resolution? What was done in the post-processing/editing and with what software?

Pardon me for being blunt, but I would rather be respected for an honest answer, than to just stroke someone's ego here. No disrespect meant here, and hope it wasn't taken as such.

Brad;

No offense taken, though a little disapointed. I thought they were pretty good.

I shot them in RAW format, but being that I was standing on a rock ledge, and trying to follow them while using a 300mm zoom, there was quite a bit of camera shake involved. Not a lot of post processing was involved, aside from the RAW wizard inside Photoshop CS, with adjusting the shadow, brightness levels, Exposure levels, and then USM and Levels post processing.

As I said, I've never shot birds in motion before, so any tips you can give me i'd appreciate.
