Not familiar with the f828, can you provide a link?
Are you inclined toward an SLR? With $1000, you could get the Canon Digital Rebel now, and then down the road expand your lens collection as your budget allows.
If you shop for good prices on the Rebel, you'll have enough left for a few CF cards, extra battery, etc. |

If you are interested in the F828, check out //sh1ft.org/shutterbug/archives.html Tracey does most of her work with that camera I believe. And a Carl Zeiss lens is crystal clear!
However, if you are considering Canon, get a used 10d and a basic lens. THen save up for some better lenses!!! :)

From an old SLR user, and someone who would love a fairy godmother to magick up a 20D...go to local camera shops, play with all the different models...that should really piss off the Saturday Kids. When you have got tired of that, go to another store and repeat process.
By this time you should have an idea of what suits...repeat whole process one more time and then buy what fits you best! |

Yeah, Formerlee is right about playing with the cameras. I have been using Canon since 1999, so I stick with canon because of the lenses and they are great cameras. But when I buy other large items (camcorders, dvd players, stereos, etc) it's best to go see them in person, press some buttons, read the write ups, ask 2 or 3 different reps their thoughts on them. Then, go home, do the research on the ones you liked best. Do searches on google and find out some thoughts of consumers at Consumer Reports and on Amazon.com (there are usually reviews there). Then, narrow it down to 2 or 3 and go play with them again! :)
Plus, see if you can get together with some local DPCers or photographers in the area. Play with their cameras if they will let you and find out what you really love and why?
Ask yourself:
1. what will I mostly be taking photos of?
2. what feature(s) can I not live without?
3. What are some features that are really high on my list and what are some I don't care about?
Then, narrow it down and go play!!!

It's strange though that he, still, has no bites on it. Can you get a better cam for less?

I would say the 828. Considering you dig video along w/ still images, this baby can push video at 640/480 at 30 frames per second. There is another thread about the 828 w/ more details, do a search. |
