The color version of my entry to the Master's challenge...

I got an awful lot of comments that it should be in color. To me, the orange, green and yellows in the trees clashed too much with the pinks and blues in the misty sky and water, so I had to go for a duotone.

Thoughts?

And this was my outtake that I almost entered...

I am so partial to BW...and oftentimes I make the mistake of turning a must-be-color shot into BW...but this one, man, I really love the BW version! Both are beautiful, though. I was really impressed with your photo!

I prefer your out-take, Jodie - that's just wonderful. I'm certain, that as with your actual entry, that 'burnt-out' (I know it isn't really, but that's the opinion) whiteness has hurt (and would have hurt with the out-take) your score.

For me, the dynamic distance between the whiteness and the depth of the trees is too far - like trying to listen to a quiet noise next to a loud one. Not sure what you might have done to lessen that difficulty, should you ave wanted to ... perhaps trying to take the bright point within the trees a touch further, without moving the black point? I would love to be able to concentrate on those amazing tones around the wood and leaves without feeling my eye constantly drawn to that brightness so much.

Just some thoughts.

Personally, I preferred the one you entered. It had that cool, early morning feel to it.

(P.s., when you don't like the colours in your images, remember that you can just paint over them using the advanced rules.)

Oh, I love it both ways, but I think I slightly prefer the B&W. I love your outtake too!

Hi Jodie,

Personally I think the B & W had more in emotional appeal to it, but then again I am very partial to B & W shots.

may not want to count my opinion though, as I like kids, kitten and flower pictures...

OK Jodie,

All three are spectacular! My comment on the original entry centered arond the composition - which doesn't change with color of course. Honestly - if I had to pick one over the other - I'd be in a true dilema. NOw don't post your outtake in B& W and me it even worse!
